Engineered Enzymes Tackle Plastic Waste
The Agile BioFoundry (ABF) is a Berkeley Lab-led consortium of national laboratories that partners with industry and academia to advance the industrial biomanufacturing of fuels and chemicals. Oregon-based Birch Biosciences has partnered with the ABF to engineer high-performance enzymes for economical plastic recycling.
Air Quality Monitor Research Helps the Public Take Action to Protect Themselves from Wildfire Smoke
Devastating wildfires have become increasingly routine in the American West. Consumer-priced air monitors have become popular in recent years for checking the level of wildfire smoke exposure. Berkeley Lab scientists compared four such monitors against a research-grade instrument as a reference, and found that these accessible monitors can provide actionable information to help Americans understand how to protect themselves and their families from wildfire smoke.
We collaborate with local organizations in every state across the nation to accelerate discovery, boost economies, and address national challenges.
