Zeek, one of the world’s most popular open-source security monitoring platforms, got its start at Berkeley Lab back in 1996. Now, Washington-based Microsoft has adapted Zeek directly into a business security product that is deployed on millions of devices globally, helping protect businesses large and small from cyberattacks.

The team at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA, needed to study actinium, an extremely scarce, radioactive metal with promising applications in cancer therapy. They worked with researchers at Berkeley Lab’s Advanced Light Source to successfully image the actinium isotope structure for the first time. A better understanding of how actinium interacts with other elements could help improve a promising cancer treatment known as targeted alpha therapy.
