Microelectronics Breakthrough Connects Washington, D.C. to Next-Generation Chips
George Washington University researchers teamed up with Berkeley Lab and other institutions to show that atoms inside semiconductor alloys do not mix randomly, but instead form localized “atomic neighborhoods” that change electronic behavior. The discovery opens a path to designing semiconductors with more precise properties for quantum computing, optoelectronics, and other advanced microelectronics.
