In 2020, the University of Maryland joined Berkeley Lab and other renowned research partners to create the $115M Department of Energy-funded Quantum Systems Accelerator (QSA). Over the last five years, the QSA has forged the technological solutions needed to harness quantum information science, including a UMD effort to build and use ion-trap systems, considered a leading candidate for building scalable quantum computers. The QSA has strengthened the nation’s research community to ensure U.S. leadership in quantum R&D and accelerate the transfer of quantum technologies from the lab to the marketplace.

We collaborate with local organizations in every state across the nation to accelerate discovery, boost economies, and address national challenges.
