Guangye Han was born in China in 1975.  He entered the University of Shanxi, and completed a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 1998, and a Master of Science in Inorganic chemistry in 2001.  Han began his Ph.D. studies under Prof. Tingyun Kuang at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences.  His project involved the photoassembly of the oxygen-evolving complex of Photosystem II (PSII).  Han moved to Uppsala University in 2006 as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Stenbjorn Styring, studying the water oxidation mechanism in the enzyme PS II using EPR spectroscopy.  In 2010, Han joined Prof. Johannes Messinger's research group in Umea University as a Kempe postdoctoral fellow to study the hydration of the oxygen-evolving complex in PSII by water proton NMRD (spin-lattice) relaxation.  Han began his current position in the Yachandra/Yano group as a postdoctoral fellow in February 2012, and his research interest is extending to the investigation of the Mn4Ca cluster in PSII using X-ray spectroscopy.
