Benedikt Lassalle was born in La Rochelle, France in 1980 and grew up in Alsace.  He completed his undergraduate studies in Strasbourg, France where he worked on delocalized nickel and palladium complexes in the group of Pr. Pierre Braunstein.  He then moved to the Universite Paris-Sud in Orsay, France where he earned his Master and Ph.D. degrees with Pr. Ally Aukauloo and Dr. Elodie Anxolabehere-Mallart, working on the electrochemistry of mononuclear manganese complexes in relation to the water oxidation reaction occurring during Photosynthesis.  As a postdoctoral fellow, he then joined the group of Dr. A. William Rutherford in the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique in Saclay, France where he worked on the electrochemistry of Photosystem II.  He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Yachandra/Yano group from November 2009 until May 2012, working on the in situ X-ray spectroscopy of water-splitting electrocatalytic systems. He is now a guest scientist at the laboratory.
