SLAC Incident
Technician (contract worker) burnt by electricity
- Second and third degree burns to upper
body and legs (40% of body)
- Important to look for reasons for not
turning off power
- Policies need to be in place for such a
situation
- What are policies for contract workers?
- Same requirements and restrictions as
career employees
- All contractors must follow Pub-3000
and WorkSmart Practices
- May be necessary to look at policy for
working on electricity while still energized
- Bldg 88 electrician is fully compliant
with Labs requirements
- Every accident that occurs on our site
or within our program is considered a LAB ACCIDENT even if the worker is
not a Lab Employee
- If you see anyone using unsafe work
practices, feel free to stop work or contact EH&S
SRC Review
- No discussion of SLAC accident
- Mesh Reviews Normally every three
years; Sometimes 2, sometimes 4, depending on results of previous review
- SRC is very concerned about LCATS,
seismic issues, ergonomics, and RWA Authorizations
- MOU with Engineering Pending
Safety Inspections
- Time to schedule
- Propose walkthrough of 88 for December
2004
- Look for problems with exit signs,
eyewash and shower stations, and SAAs
- We need to think of ways to identify
safety hazards colored dots and numbers???
Other Safety Issues
- Reminder: If you are calling in an alarm to x7911,
be sure to tell dispatcher that you are calling from LBNL
- Earthquake-proofing to B88 crane needs
to be done. Many requests have already
been submitted with no results. K.
