Standard Publication Acknowledgments
An acknowledgement might have as many as 3 components:
1) Thanks: to persons who assisted; external agencies that provided funds for
an instrument;
2) Acknowledgement of funding source(s) for the research activity (every paper
has this component)
3) Recognition of use of other DOE User Facilities
Standard DOE acknowledgment for BES/MSED funding:
This work was supported by the Director, Office of Science, Office of Basic
Energy Sciences, Materials Sciences and Engineering Division, of the U.S.
Department of Energy under Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231
Short Standard DOE acknowledgment for abstracts and letters ONLY: This work was supported by the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231
LDRD acknowledgment:
This work was supported by the Laboratory Directed Research and Development
Program of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory under the Department of
Energy Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231.
User Project:
Funding source for user’s project may be listed first. Then, add : Portions
of this work were performed at the Molecular Foundry, Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory, which is supported by the Office of Science, Office of Basic Energy
Sciences, U.S. Department of Energy, under Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231.
Foundry or NCEM Internal Research acknowledgement:
This work was performed at the Molecular Foundry (or National Center for Electron
Microscopy), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and was supported by
the Office of Science, Office of Basic Energy Sciences, of the U.S. Department
of Energy under Contract No. DE-AC02—05CH11231.
Affiliation:
Authors of publications resulting from work funded through LBNL must show their
LBNL affiliation before (or instead of) a campus affiliation.
Work-for-Others acknowledgment:
This work was supported by ... Agency Name, Contract or Order No. through the
U.S. Department of Energy under Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231.
(Contact
Sally Nasman x4714 if you do not know your WFO contract number.)
Work supported by two DOE/BES Divisions:
This work was supported by the Director, Office of Science, Office of Basic
Energy Sciences, the Materials Sciences and Engineering Division and the
Chemical Sciences, Geosciences, and Biosciences Division under the Department
of Energy Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231.
…or by a DOE non-BES Office:
"... supported by the Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable
Energy, Building Technologies under the Department of Energy Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231.
Papers reporting work supported through both LBNL and an unrelated agency:
Dr. A and Dr. B and the SEM studies were supported by the Director, Office
of Science, Office of Basic Energy Sciences, Materials Sciences and Engineering
Division, of the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231.
Dr. X and Dr. Y were supported by NSF grant #XXXXX.
A publication that includes the report of a User Project from a DOE User Facility
should carry the following type of acknowledgement:
The User’s funding source (part 2 above) is indicated first - this might
be NSF, NIH, a DOE program, MSD funds (i.e. the standard DOE acknowledgement
above), etc., since a User might have no affiliation with LBNL, might be an
MSD faculty scientist using other funds, or might be an MSD PI using DOE funds.
Portions of this work (e.g. nanoparticle synthesis) were performed at the Molecular
Foundry, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, which is supported by the Office
of Science, Office of Basic Energy Sciences, of the U.S. Department of Energy
under Contract No. DE-AC02—05CH11231.
Note: Research completed before June 2005 must be reported with the previous contract: DE-AC03-76SF00098
