Positions Available
Anyone interested in a position at Berkeley Lab is encouraged to find out more about the individual laboratories in the Life Sciences Division and contact the laboratory's Principal Investigator directly. The current pay-scales for postdocs in all divisions (including Life Sciences) are listed here. Useful resources for finding positions outside of Berkeley Lab:
- Science
- Nature
- New Scientist
- ...even Craigslist
Also, Berkeley Lab Learning Institute sponsors a Position Announcements Website. This site is a resource for postdocs and graduate student research assistants who work at Berkeley Lab and are looking for scientific positions at organizations outside of the Laboratory. Divisions periodically post position announcements they receive from universities, other national laboratories, and industry on this site. It also includes links to position listings at a variety of institutions.

Local Seminars
One of the benefits of working at Berkeley Lab is the exposure to the rich surrounding scientific community.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Seminar Series 2011
The Postdoc Society Seminar series is held on the first Wednesdays of the month at noon - 1 p.m. at 717 Potter Street, room 141. This seminar series is for postdocs and scientists to present any work they might currently be doing, and for new members, work recently done prior to coming to Berkeley Lab. The forum is informal and the talks are quite short (20 min.), so the presentations need not be full conference talks. New researchers should feel welcome to present something, even if it not a complete study. If you are interested in presenting please email Curt Hines. The seminar series will start again in September.
Spring 2011 Seminar Schedule:
January 5
Mandana Veiseh (Bissell Lab)

PAST EVENTS
Life Sciences Division Annual Retreat 2010
DATE: September 23
The Life Sciences Division hosted the Annual Life Sciences Division Scientific Retreat on Thursday, September 23, at the Joaquin Miller Community Center in Oakland, CA. The retreat program, co-organized by the Postdoc Society President, was themed "Integration." The purpose of the retreat was to foster collaborations among the different groups and departments. As in the past, the program took place over the course of a single day, this year broken down into four 75 minute blocks - one for each department - allowing each department to describe their work to the other division members. Each block included a 15 minute departmental overview by the Department Head, followed by three classroom style talks by department members. The very succesful program included classroom style presentations, poster sessions and concluded with a reception.
6th Annual Summer Picnic 2010

The Life Sciences Division hosted the Annual Life Sciences Division Scientific Retreat on Friday, September 11 at the Joaquin Miller Community Center in Oakland, CA. The Retreat had a similar format as last year, with the fundamental element of the all day program being a poster session and and platform presentations.
Life Sciences Division Annual Retreat 2008
DATE: September 19, 2008
The Life Sciences Division held a Scientific Retreat on September 19, 2008 at the Joaquin Miller Community Center in Oakland, CA. The program committee, consisting of Postdoc Society Co-Presidents Kelly Trego and Aris Polyzos of the Cooper and Marchetti labs respectively, and Mina Bissell, created an exciting program that attracted many members’ participation and lead to the success of this retreat.
A fundamental element of the program was the participation by postdocs and scientists in a lunchtime poster session, as well as in several 15 minute platform presentations. The program committee invited all Life Sciences Division postdocs and scientists to submit an abstract; More than 50 researchers took advantage of the opportunity to share their work with the Division. The goal was for the presentations to be accessible to the full breadth of scientists within the Division, since this would maximize everyone's appreciation of their colleagues' work and potentially kindle interesting new collaborations.
Abstracts selected for talks featured both postdocs and scientists, were most lucid and compelling, and were chosen to reflect the diversity of research within the division. Most speakers were selected based on submitted abstracts but the program also featured invited speakers from the Division, UC Berkeley and Stanford University.
Postdoc Society Elections
