This mission of this group of researchers is to develop instrumentation for Nuclear Medical Imaging, primarily for positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT).

The applications that we are targeting include general-purpose whole-body cameras (typically used for oncology, cardiology, and neurology), specialized cameras optimized for imaging breast cancer and for imaging prostate cancer, and cameras for imaging small animals. The specific technologies that we are developing include:

New dense inorganic scintillators for gamma ray detection

Novel photodiode array designs for measuring scintillation light

Custom integrated circuits containing arrays of low noise charge sensitive amplifiers

New detector designs and camera geometries incorporating the above elements

Tomographic reconstruction algorithms incorporating the additional information available from these and other novel detector designs
