Fifteen community-spirited employees gave up their lunch hour on April 11, 1995 to see what they could
drag out of the bushes around the Bldg.65 bus stop area. In 25 minutes, they collected 200 pounds of
trash, including an old bicycle, a spare tire, several parking barricades, lead bricks, and the usual
assortment of discarded items. |

Deputy Lab Director Klaus Berkner (far left) said he got his fill digging vegetable
gardens as a boy and now does only ornamental gardening. However, he got into the spirit on April 14,
1995 by helping to inaugurate the Lab's new Community Garden, located between Bldgs.2 and 29. Plans call
for the garden, which was launched by LBNL's Green Team, to host a variety of vegetables
and flowers. |

The Herb Garden became a reality on June 29, 1995. Green Team members are busy at work in the
newly prepared plot adjacent to the cafeteria parking lot. Future plantings are planned for
Fall of '95. |

Vince Rash of UC Berkeley led an April24 ecological tour of UC's Strawberry Creek,
which wends its way down through Strawberry Canyon and across the campus. |

attending the Lab's April 17 Eco Fair how to turn compost into a valuable garden
supplement. |

on an April 3, 1997 clean-up mission at the Berkeley Marina as part of the Lab's
Earth Month Celebration. |
