Environment, Health & Safety Divison, ext.
5514
The Environment, Health and Safety Division is a multi-disciplinary group
that can help you with all of your health and safety needs. EH&S personnel
provide oversight, technical guidance, assistance, and monitoring in the
fields of radiation safety, occupational safety, industrial hygiene (which
includes chemical and biosafety), laser safety, hazardous waste disposal,
environmental protection, and training. Resources such as videotapes,
slide shows, and written materials are also available. Any time you plan
to use new hazardous substances, equipment, or procedures, inform EH&S
so they can verify that all safety requirements have been met.
The following resources contain necessary health and safety information.
Copies of these LBNL publications may be obtained from report coordination,
division or department heads, EH&S, or (when indicated) on the Web.
- The LBNL Health and Safety Manual (PUB-3000),
a comprehensive overview of health, safety, and
environmental policy and required practices at
the Lab, available on the Web at http://www.lbl.gov/ehs/pub3000/.
- Activity Hazard Documents (AHDs), required for
certain hazardous equipment and operations (such
as accelerators, x-ray units, and lasers). AHDs
contain specific rules and procedures for hazardous
experiments or equipment
- Chemical Hygiene and Safety Plan (PUB-5341)
- Facility, Function, and Project Notebooks, which
provide documentation of LBNL’s implementation
of DOE requirements for quality assurance, conduct
of operations, and maintenance management. Notebooks
describe requirements and document how they have
been fulfilled.
- Guidelines for Generators of Hazardous Chemical
Waste at LBNL and Guidelines for Generators of
Radioactive and Mixed Waste at LBNL (PUB-3092),
available on the Web at http://www.lbl.gov/ehs/waste/pub3092/.
- Medical and Biohazardous Waste Generator’s Guide
(PUB-3095)
- Guidelines for Waste Accumulation Areas at LBNL
(PUB-3093)
- Personnel Dosimetry Program (PUB-256)
- Supervisors’ Guide to Hazard Communication (PUB-3070).
