Who needs to know about these requirements?

The requirements of the Seismic Safety Program apply to:

• All Laboratory employees, casual and participating visitors, guests, and contractor employees.


• Whenever they are:


• On LBNL-owned property or in any LBNL-owned or -leased buildings

Why?

Lack of seismic safety knowledge could lead to:

• Injuries (including fatalities) to personnel


• Extra costs and delays

What you need to know:

• The University of California Seismic Rating System for buildings can be found in Section 23.4.1 (Rating of Buildings and Other Structures).


• The UC Seismic Rating for LBNL Buildings can be found at Seismic Status Lookup.


• Use restrictions for “Poor” and  “Very Poor” rated buildings can be found in Section 23.5 (Process for Determining Use Restrictions for Buildings and Other Structures with “Poor” and “Very Poor” Seismic Ratings).


• Nonstructural earthquake safety measures are found in Section 23.7 (Nonstructural Earthquake Safety Measures).
