Personal Injury

For EMERGENCY response to a serious or life-threatening injury or illness, call x7911 or x9-911.

For treatment of NON-EMERGENCY injuries or illnesses:

  • Between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on regular business days, report to Health Services in Bldg. 26
  • First Aid After-Hours: For minor cuts and scrapes, a first aid kit marked with a green sign and a
    white cross is located outside of Bldg. 26. Employees and participating guests can swipe their
    ID card to access the first aid kit after 3:30 p.m.
  • After hours or on weekends, call your personal physician or proceed to the nearest hospital or
    clinic emergency room
    All Injuries MUST be reported to Health Services at Bldg. 26 or by calling x6266

Emergency Response Procedures

Hazardous material splashed in eye or onto body

  • Rescuers should wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (ie: nitrile/latex gloves, goggles, gowns, etc.)
  • Remove contaminated clothing
  • Flush affected body areas with water from nearest safety shower/eyewash unit for at least 15 minutes
  • Use soap for biological and radiological splashes to the body – but not for the eyes. If the eyes are affected, forcibly hold open the eyes to ensure effective flushing
  • Request emergency medical attention, call x7911 or x9-911
  • Hydroflouric acid users require a special exposure kit – available from Health Services
  • Report incident to Health Services call x6266
  • Report incident to Supervisor

Hazardous materials injected into body via accidental cuts, needlesticks, etc.

  • Rescuers should wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (ie: nitrile/latex gloves, goggles, gowns, etc.)
  • Flush affected body areas with water for at least 5 and up to 15 minutes and wash with soap
    DO NOT use strong disinfectants such as household bleach on skin
  • Apply pressure with a clean gauze/bandage to control bleeding
  • Request emergency medical attention, call x7911 or 9-911
  • Report incident to Health Services call x6266
  • Report incident to Supervisor

Lacerations, puncture wounds, strains and sprains

  • Report incident to Health Services x6266
  • Report incident to Supervisor

Electrical shock

  • Call x7911 or 9-911
  • De-energize equipment
  • Warn others
  • Report incident to Supervisor

Laser, RF or radiation beam exposure

  • Call x7911 or 9-911
  • Shut off equipment
  • Secure area
  • Warn others
  • Report incident to Supervisor
