Building Emergency Teams (BET)

Building Emergency Team Policy

Building Emergency Teams are employee volunteers assigned by the Building Manager and consists of these positions:

  1. BET Leader (may also be the Building Manager)
  2. BET Member

During all emergencies, Berkeley Lab policy requires that an organized effort be made to protect personnel from injury and minimize damage to property and the environment. The purpose of the Berkeley Lab BET's is to respond to emergencies in or near their building(s).

Team functions include:

  • Coordination of building evacuations and search procedures
  • Control of assembly areas
  • Search and rescue (under supervision of professionals)
  • Assistance to professional responders
  • Communication with the Emergency Command Center (ECC)
  • Maintenance and control of emergency equipment
  • Emergency utility shutdown procedures
  • Control of building re-entry
