SESSION 5

SPECIFIC CONTROL PROCEDURES

For Laboratory Users Only

Upon completion of this session, you will learn additional methods to protect yourself from the hazards of specific types of chemicals such as corrosives, carcinogens, reproductive toxins, highly toxic materials, flammable and combustible liquids, laser dyes and laser dye solvents, peroxide forming chemicals and water reactives.

This session is broken down into the following six parts:

  1. Corrosives - Acids/Bases
  2. Particularly Hazardous Substances - such as carcinogens, reproductive toxins and highly toxic materials
  3. Flammable and Combustible Liquids
  4. Laser Dyes and Laser Dye Solvents
  5. Peroxide Forming Chemicals - such as ethers, dioxanes, THF
  6. Water Reactives - alkali metals

You only need to complete the parts that apply to you and the materials you handle.  For example if you handle acids and flammable materials in your work area then you need to complete parts 5a and 5c.

It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete each part in this session.
