EXPOSURE CONTROL PLAN

Introduction

Dear Investigator:

Welcome to the Exposure Control Plan (ECP) development site. To save you time and effort, EH&S has developed a generic ECP which you can modify to meet the compliance requirements for the Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure Control Standard issued by OSHA. This Standard sets forth the requirements for personnel and environmental protection from pathogens that may contaminate human blood and blood associated materials. While it is highly unlikely that the human source materials you may work with contain these pathogens, OSHA requires that we adopt a conservative approach to risk management. In essence, LBNL and all other organizations that have developed compliance programs manage human blood and blood associated materials as if they did contain pathogens.

Once you have completed your plan, please email or send a copy to Paul Blodgett, EH&S Biosafety Officer for review by the Institutional Biosafety Committee. Please make a copy of the plan available to your staff.  Should you need assistance in the development of your Plan please contact EH&S using the ECP Questions web page or call Paul Blodgett at ext. 6218.

It is necessary for each PI to produce an Exposure Control Plan by completing the following ECP Plan Form .  This form can be downloaded from this site in MS Word format.

As you review this ECP, questions (marked in green) will be asked which you will need to answer to complete your individual plan.  A MS Word ECP Template can be downloaded onto your computer from the ECP Plan Form page.
