DOE Overview
The Office of Science of the Department of Energy has announced the fiscal year 2012 Early Career Research Program. Now in its third year, the Program supports the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and stimulates research careers in the disciplines supported by the DOE Office of Science. Detailed information is available at the DOE Office of Science Early Career website: http://science.energy.gov/early-career/
Mandatory preproposals are due September 1, 2011. Only those individuals who receive notification from DOE encouraging a formal proposal may submit full proposals. Full proposals are due November 29, 2011. Peer review, selection, and award management will be handled in the DOE science programs where the technical expertise resides.
There is no limit on the number of preproposal submissions from a DOE national laboratory in a given year. However, the research ideas in each preproposal or proposal must fit within the scope of Office of Science-funded programs at Berkeley Lab. Each full proposal must be accompanied by a letter from the national laboratory director confirming that this is the case. National laboratory proposals will be submitted through Searchable FWP.
Further information can be found in the DOE national laboratory announcement LAB 11-572 posted on the Office of Science grants and contracts office website: http://science.doe.gov/grants/pdf/LAB_11-572.pdf .
