Stefan Lasiewski, NERSC Senior Server Team Engineer

Stefan Lasiewski is passionate about public service, as well as information systems. As NERSC's newest Senior Server Team Engineer, these interests dovetail as he applies his technological expertise to help researchers push the frontiers of science and find solutions to some of humanity's biggest problems. “For most of my career, I have been able to work for organizations that serve the public good, mostly by working with the nonprofit community. I think that NERSC and LBNL have a good mission, and I look forward to contributing to it,” says Lasiewksi.

Prior to NERSC, Lasiewksi worked with information systems in Convio's Berkeley office. Established a decade ago, Convio is the leading online fundraising and content management system vendor for nonprofit organizations in the United States.

Originally from California's San Luis Obispo County, Lasiewksi began his migrating north to study at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he earned an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies. After college he moved to San Francisco for six years, then to Berkeley, where he currently resides.

As a father of two, with another on the way, Lasiewski admits that he doesn't have very much free time. When he does have a free moment, he enjoys bicycling in urban areas, DIY electronics, coin collecting and gardening.

Ready to Bunko: Mary Beedle (far-left) with her neighborhood Bunko Club at a crazy hat party.

Mary Beedle, Berkeley Lab Computing Sciences Business Team Analyst

As the newest member of the Berkeley Lab Computing Sciences Business Team, Mary Beedle will help develop a core set of financial metrics that will help the division meet its compliance mandates.

Prior to her arrival at the Berkeley Lab, Beedle was a financial consultant at the corporate headquarters of Central Garden & Pet Company.

Originally from Southern California's San Fernando Valley, Beedle studied at the University of California, Berkeley, and immediately became a big fan of the Bay Area.

“San Francisco and Berkeley alone have so much to offer — entertainment, restaurants and million-dollar views. The Bay Area is also wonderful because of the different geographical and climate zones. Within one to three hours of travel time, one can land on a beach or be skiing in the mountains,” says Beedle.

On her spare time, Beedle enjoys trying out new recipes with her gourmet cooking club and throwing dice with her neighborhood Bunko Club. She spends most weekends with her teenage children.

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to support an organization that is cutting-edge, that creates so much value to the world we live in,” says Beedle, about working inthe Berkeley Lab’s Computing Sciences Division.
