Computational Research & Theory Facility: Structural concrete effectively completed in February. Stored soil at Bevatron parking lot is being removed to approved landfill. Roof materials stocked and waiting for weather to begin installation. Cooling Tower piping installation continues. Interior wall framing, MEP and sprinkler installation is underway. Truck turnaround slab installation was performed. Fireproofing of structural steel is underway. 15 kV cable feeder splicing completed to MH 3. Waterproofing of soldier pile wall has begun. Project is scheduled for completion in December 2014.
Solar Energy Research Center: The building envelope is complete and “dried-in.” Interior walls are nearing completion and ready for painting. Much of the utility infrastructure is in place and building equipment is ready to be started up once electrical energization can take place. Casework lab furnishings and finishes will proceed into the summer with the main construction work expected to be completed late 2014.
Seismic Phase 2:
Bldg. 33 General Purpose Laboratory: Building energization nearly complete, generator start-up planned for mid-March. Architectural punch list walk-throughs have been held on all floors. MEP punchlist anticipated in March. Commissioning of building systems in in progress. Substantial completion of the construction subcontract is planned for the end of March 2014. Bids have been received for follow-on fit-up efforts.
FlexLab: Planning for electrical energization of the exterior test beds is in progress. Energization is anticipated in March. Installation of an electrical transformer and pump motor variable frequency drives is in progress. Substantial completion of the construction subcontract is anticipated at the end of March 2014.
Old Town Demolition: Critical Decision 1 (CD-1, Selection of Alternatives) was approved in October 2013 and $19.4M of funding has been approved for the characterization, deactivation, abatement, demolition and soil remediation of Buildings 5, 16 and 16A and for removal of the concrete slabs, footings and soil remediation of previously demolished buildings 52, 52A, 40 and 4. The demolition and soil remediation of Buildings 4, 7, 7C, 14 is deferred until further funding is available. The demolition of the subject buildings is part of an overall plan to remediate and redevelop the Old Town area of the Lab.
