LBNL Publication Policy and Submittal Instructions

All publications describing work by Laboratory personnel or done with Berkeley Lab facilities must be reviewed and cleared by the LBNL Patent Group before they can be sent outside the Laboratory, except for restricted disclosure to certain government and University of California personnel.

As the system for pre-publication review is currently not functional due to changes in security updates for unpublished or copyrighted articles, please used this Patent Clearance form.

Please fill in the appropriate information of title, authors, Division, the date that document will be submitted or published, and the LBNL contact person along with their phone and email address. Attach the completed form to the proposed publication and mail it to Patent Group, Technology Transfer and IP Management, MS 90B0104, Berkeley, CA 94720 or email it to PatentPubReview@lbl.gov. A copy of the approved form will be returned to you by email.

While we aim to provide a turn around time of one to two weeks, if this is not sufficient time before publication occurs, please call the Patent Group at 486-7058 and you will be directed to the appropriate attorney or agent handling your Division’s approvals.

Please remember the purpose of patent review is to ensure that all inventions have been reported. Possible inventions should be reported before the material is ready for publication. When sufficient lead time is given, publication delays can be avoided. The attorneys and patent agents in Berkeley Lab's Patent Group are available to answer any questions regarding this policy.
