Action Items for 2005

  • Incorporate Web-based Student Tracking System (WSTS) registration into a new student orientation by October 1, 2005.
  • Capture 90% of current undergraduate students in a WSTS by July 2005.
  • Improve Division-wide knowledge of planned seminars with publication highlights.
  • Make a Physical Biosciences Division (PBD) events calendar available to the Division by September 15, 2005.
  • Increase seminar series from 7 per year to 14.
  • Incorporate WSTS into recruitment process by October 1, 2005.
  • Develop Internship Outreach Program by April 30, 2005.
    • Create mechanisms for potential students to connect with scientists.
  • Use WSTS data as a pipeline for recruitment.
  • Gain an understanding of the variety of people in PBD — Fall 2005.
    • Have 90% of employees participate in self-identification process.
    • Share diversity information with employees.
  • Involve Division employees in the development of the diversity plan — Fall 2005.
    • Ask employees to identify ways to raise diversity awareness in PBD.
    • Ask employees to nominate other employees for the recognition program.

  • Communicate with five schools or organizations by July 1, 2005.
  • Host two summer events for students.
    • Poster session and Potter Street Tour.
  • Redesign mentorship program for underrepresented undergraduate students by September 1, 2005.
  • Establish full mentorship program for three undergraduate students and three principal investigators by September 30, 2005.
