David C. McGraw
Associate Laboratory Director, Chief Operating Officer

David McGraw serves as Associate Laboratory Director for Operations at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. As such, he is the principal contact for Berkeley Lab on all operations matters. This includes representing the Laboratory to the University of California, Department of Energy Office of Science, peer organizations and other national laboratories.
Prior to this position, McGraw has held a variety of increasingly demanding managerial positions at Berkeley Lab, beginning with his appointment in 1991 as the Division Director of Environment, Health and Safety. In addition to this appointment, he was assigned responsibilities as the Special Projects and Operations Deputy Director in 2003. He was a key party involved in the creation of the Public Affairs Department in 2002 and the Business Services Division in 2003.
McGraw received his B.Ed. in Biology in 1967 from the University of Calgary. In 1974, he received his M.Sc. in Plant Physiology also from the University of Calgary. He then went on to the University of California, Berkeley where he obtained his MPH in Environmental Science and Industrial Hygiene in 1982.
After earning his M.Sc. degree, McGraw spent twelve (12) years as a professor at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Canada, where he also chaired the Environmental Sciences Department for six (6) years. He joined IBM Corporation in 1982, working varied positions in the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) field. In 1989, he moved to Apple Computer to become their Corporate Manager of EH&S, responsible for Apple's EH&S programs at facilities throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. This is the position he held until beginning his career at Berkeley Lab.
Mr. McGraw has been the recipient of the Department of Energy Achievement Award and the National Performance Review Quality Assurance Award.
