On-Line Training for HRIS 8.9 PeopleSoft Users

The User Productivity Kit (UPK) is a web based application designed to provide on-line training for users of the Berkeley Lab PeopleSoft Human Resource database.

Important: The on-line training application works only on the Internet Explorer (IE) Browser. Using any other browser produces an error message.

Using On-Line Training:

HRIS Users should complete the on-line lessons as necessary for their access. The on-line training modules, lessons, and topics are designed to assist you with navigation, basic functionality, and LBNL HRIS system specific lessons for version 8.9. Additional and revised lesson topics will be added as they are developed. Please send any suggestions or comments regarding lesson topics to the HRIS team at hris@lbl.gov.

There are some settings on your computer that you will want to check before using UPK. Settings for UPK:

Screen Resolution UPK is best viewed using a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. To check your screen resolution: Right-click on your desktop Choose Properties Click on the Settings tab Under Screen Resolution, move the tab until 1024 x 768 pixels appears Click OK Pop-up Blockers If you have a pop-up blocker installed on your PC, it will prevent some windows from opening in UPK. Most pop-up blockers allow a window to open if the control key is held down while performing an action.

Using the On-Line Training (UPK)

Once logged on, users will see an outline of the modules, lessons, and topics.

Example Outline:

1. In the Outline window, double click the menu item or click the (+) plus, to expand the selection. The on-line training topics themselves are at the lowest level or the outline hierarchy.

2. Select the Playback mode of your choice. When the training topic is highlighted in the outline, there are several “Playback Mode” buttons in the top right hand corner of the window which will activate the topic in your desired mode.

Modes	Description and Recommend Use
	Animated demonstration - Sit back and watch the procedure as it is run by the application.
	Use this for all lessons – Hands on the procedure with instruction and info.
	Test your knowledge of the procedure with minimal direction from the system.
	Help as you work in the production database. The on-line training window is open and floats over the real production database giving you instruction and hints as you work.
