The Berkeley Lab offers a generous benefit package for career employees including, a choice of several health insurance plans, comprehensive dental coverage, generous leave and retirement benefits. Vacation: Three weeks paid annually (ten hours accrued per month). This amount increases after ten, fifteen, and twenty years of service. Sick Leave: Twelve days paid annually (eight hours accrued per month); no maximum limit. Holidays: Twelve paid holidays annually. Medical Plans: Several health insurance plans are available for eligible employees and dependents. The Lab pays the full premium for at least one plan and contributes significantly toward the cost of the others. Dental Plans: Two comprehensive, Laboratory-paid, dental plans are available for eligible employees and dependents. Vision Care Plan: A comprehensive, Laboratory-paid, vision plan is available for eligible employees and dependents. Disability Insurance: Employee-paid insurance provides long-term disability benefits in addition to Laboratory-paid short-term disability benefits. Life Insurance: Free life insurance equivalent to one year's salary ($50,000 maximum) is provided. You may purchase up to four times your annual salary in extra life insurance, up to $1,000,000. You may also purchase dependent life insurance. Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance: Up to $500,000, employee paid. Legal Expense Insurance Plan: This employee-paid plan helps with preventative, domestic, consumer, and defensive legal services. Tax Savings Plans: Employee-paid health insurance premiums may be deducted on a pre-tax basis. Flexible spending accounts, DepCare and the Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) allow employees to shelter eligible dependent care and health care expenses from taxes up to set limits.
