  • THE SECURE FLIGHT PROGRAM

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced the implementation of the Secure Flight program. This program is intended to enhance the security of domestic and international air travel for all passengers through the use of improved TSA watch-list matching, as well as reduce the instances of passenger misidentification.

  • HOW WILL SECURE FLIGHT AFFECT YOU?

EFFECTIVE TODAY (July 2, 2009):CarlsonWagonlit agents and Cliqbook will begin requesting all traveler's gender, date of birth and middle name in order to update profiles for the new TSA requirements.

BEWARE: Many LBNL travelers have official names that do not match their profiles or frequent flyer program traveler information. This will cause items to be incorrectly communicated to the airline and cause airport delays. Travelers/travel arrangers, please update all frequent traveler accounts with traveler's official name. It is the traveler’s responsibility to verify frequent flyer traveler information at the airport until all profile data is updated.

This TSA section is available in your Cliqbook profile today— you will be able to update your personal information permanently:

  • OVERVIEW
  • The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secure Flight program transfers the responsibility of pre-departure watch list matching from the airlines to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
  • In an effort to reduce false matches to watch list names, the program will request that travelers provide their full name, date of birth, gender and redress number (if applicable) when booking airline flights.
  • The data will be transmitted from the airlines to the TSA 72 hours before travel, or at the time of booking for flights booked less than 72 hours in advance.
  • Additional information, including details of the program and its associated privacy program, can be found on the TSA Web Site.

  • TSA TIMELINE

The TSA will incorporate each airline into the Secure Flight program. The following timeline is provided:

  • August 15, 2009 – Passengers will be requested to provide their full name, date of birth, gender and redress number (if applicable) when booking flights that operate within the United States. The TSA definition of 'full name' is the name as it appears on the government issued ID that the person presents at the airport.
  • October 31, 2009 – Passengers will be requested to provide their full name, date of birth, gender and redress number (if applicable) when booking airline flights into, out of, and over the United States, as well as any U.S. carrier operating between any two points globally.
  • Early 2010 – The TSA plans to vet 100% of passengers on all domestic commercial flights within the United States.
  • End of 2010 – The TSA plans to vet 100% of passengers on all international commercial flights into, out of, and over the United States, as well as passengers on flights operated by U.S. carriers between any two points globally.
  • CARLSONWAGONLIT TRAVEL'S ROLE
  • The airlines have asked travel agencies to request and collect the DHS data to minimize any delay or disruption in the check-in process or at the airport.
  • CWT is updating their profile systems, the online booking tool (Cliqbook), and travel counselor processes to prepare for the collection and transmission of Secure Flight data prior to the initial start date of August 15, 2009 for all relevant itineraries.
  • CWT will request, collect, and transmit the Secure Flight data elements to the airlines as a part of each required reservation made with CWT (regardless of booking method) in advance of TSA deadlines.
  • LAB TRAVELER'S CHOICES ARE:
  1. Update traveler profile online with Cliqbook.
  2. Communicate this information verbally each time traveler makes a booking with CWT.
  3. Provide this information directly to the carrier on the day of departure. (Check-in time may increase at the airport.)
