Healthy Snacks Will Keep Travelers Moving

Healthy SnackMost travelers can probably recall being delayed in airports or in planes sitting on the tarmac. These unplanned delays can increase stress and aggravate hunger and thirst. If hunger pangs are left unattended, what began as an annoying distraction can quickly morph into a miserable experience, which can negatively impact a traveler’s mood and even work performance once at their destination.

Nutritionists propose a simple solution for staying fresh and more relaxed while traveling – a healthy snack. Travelers should plan ahead by carrying a snack onto the plane, either packed from home or purchased at the airport.

Nutrition experts recommend healthful choices such as fruit, dried fruit, whole-grain granola, nutrition bars, mixed nuts, and peanut butter. Other nutritional choices include processed cheese, dried jerky-style meats, popcorn, coconut, dry cereal, pretzels, rice cakes, soy chips and dark chocolate.

Travelers who don’t take snacks along can make do by purchasing something onboard, though less healthful options may abound. For specific caloric content of the snacks offered on several U.S. airlines, visit the Diet Detective.
