Improved SiC Filter for Molten Iron Filtration

WIB-2866

APPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY:

For foundries and manufacturing

ADVANTAGES:

ABSTRACT:

A team led by Michael Tucker of Berkeley Lab has developed ceramic coatings and glass additives to improve SiC-based filters for molten iron filtration. The Berkeley Lab technology overcomes the problem of low quality output when small filter pieces become entrained into cast metal parts.

For more details including testing results, go here and see the inventors' related publication.

STATUS: Patent pending. Available for licensing or collaborative research.

DEVELOPMENT STAGE: Bench scale prototype.
