TOUGH +: Modeling Fluid and Heat Flow in Porous and Fractured Ground

CR-1275, 2396

APPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY:

Analysis of:

  • geothermal reservoirs
  • nuclear waste storage sites
  • gas hydrate-bearing formations
  • geologic carbon sequestration sites
  • saline and freshwater aquifers (including the vadose zone)
  • sites contaminated by radionuclides or volatile organic compounds

ADVANTAGES:

  • Can be used to predict the location of geothermal reserviors
  • Models multiphase fluid and heat flow through porous and fractured media
  • Various modules can be linked to the core of TOUGH+ to describe different fluids and their compositions, or to simulate more complex, coupled processes
