An association of research universities helps develop policies and practices that fairly reflect the mutual interest and separate obligations of federal agencies and universities in federal research and training. The Council also provides advice and information to its membership, and makes certain that federal agencies understand academic operations and the burden their proposed regulations might impose on colleges and universities. ACET, the Alameda Center for Environmental Technologies, is a business incubator for environmental, biotechnology, and energy start-up companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. ACET facilitates the fast-track transfer of technologies through its network of entrepreneurs, vendors, and European Union contacts through Savoie Technolac in France. ACET also maintains a pass-through Work for Others contract with Berkeley Lab that allows small businesses rapid access to researchers.

Bay Area Economic/Regional Resources The TechVentures Network (aka. Bay Area Regional Technology Alliance - BARTA) is a nonprofit consortium of organizations devoted to encouraging technology-based economic development in the San Francisco Bay Area. Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network and its Initiatives address critical issues facing Silicon Valley. It works to bring people together from business, government, education and the community to act on regional issues affecting economic vitality and quality of life in Silicon Valley. The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), owned and operated by the cities and counties of the San Francisco Bay Area, is one of more than 560 regional planning agencies across the nation working to help solve problems in areas such as land use, housing, environmental quality, and economic development.
