Attendees: J. Emes, M. Garcia-Sciveres K. Hardy, R. Kadel, R. Madaras, F. Rosado, T. Spadafora, C. Thompson, M. White
New location for meeting? Bldg 70 Rm 191 maybe available. KH to see if available, as we are running out of room.
Electrical Work and
Safety (Handout):
- PUB-300, Chapter 8, gives info on electrical work, what's required, etc.
- Some changes to safety requirements - effective immediately (handout)
- Is there lots of work done on Energized Electrical Equipment ("hot work")? If so, we need to compile a list of who is doing this work and make sure they are trained
- For ALL electrical work being done, note whether this work is "hot" or "cold", and list the names of the people authorized to do the work
- When testing, work is almost always "hot"
- Discussion of different "modes of operation"
- Mode 1 = Cold
- Mode 2 = Cold to Hot
- Mode 3 = Hot
- Class 1B, Mode 3, is the most type of "hot" work done. What are the requirements/restrictions for this kind of work? KH will check with Tom Caronna
- What other training is needed? Electrical Awareness - EHS260
- The above class can be given to the whole division
Action Item: Kathie Hardy to check with Tom Hardy for
restrictions on "hot" work, and will get clarification
on any other changes/requirements.
OSHA - Corrective
Actions:
- All OSHA items - "zero cost items" - were fixed
- Some hoses in room 6035 need to be repaired
SRC Update:
- Mesh Review: Physics - Every two years
- Laser Safety - Some work done to install safety switches ($11,000)
- OSHA reminder: Test eye wash stations every week
- Lab has 45 databases related to training
- Many of the OSHA findings are going to be very costly to repair (Approx. $3.8 million)
- 2,303 findings, 55 recommendations; 33% electrical
- 53% of findings will be fixed by January 2005
Training:
- How can we get students to attend classes?
- Block computer access
- Supervisor - bring it up in evaluations
Safety Inspections:
- November 18 - KH will send out email to see who can attend
- See
if Tom Caronna can accompany team and help with
electrical issues - Confirmation
Pending
