Minutes of the Physics Division ES&H Committee

Attendees:  J. Emes, M. Garcia-Sciveres, K. Hardy, R. Kadel, R. Madaras, N. Palaio, F. Rosado, A. Spadafora, M. White

 

Official OSHA findings for Physics:

  • About 25 findings/categories that need attention
  • Need for Memo of Understanding for Engineering Division
  • Off-site issues - CERN, FERMI, Brookhaven, Etc. - Need to contact these institutions for a statement on their safety program

 

Duck/Cover/Hold Drill:

  • May 20, 2004, 10AM
  • Remind ALL to leave office when requested

 

SAA Inspections:

  • Will be conducted by Marty White
  • Key item - Assign an employee/person to be responsible for SAA
  • Check SAA daily - THIS IS THE ANSWER
  • "An empty SAA is a compliant SAA" - Request regular pick-ups of your hazardous wastes
  • Secondary containment is something that can be given attention right now (grey totes???)

 

Atlas Lab:

·        New source holder completed

·        Can be inspected, if necessary

·        Action Item:  Email from Maurice regarding completion

 

SRC Update:

  • LBNL accidents - Low in last 6 months
  • Legacy waste issues discussed
  • MOU with University of California regarding shared work space - Completed

 

Ergo:

  • Many non-ergo workstations in our division.  What will be done about this?
  • More evaluations can be done - WILL BE DONE
  • These evals will be pursued aggressively
  • Ergo importance MUST be stressed
  • Responsibility also lies with the employee
