ATLAS Pixel Project –
- T. Caronna has approved all electrical work (all below thresholds)
- Concerns regarding electrical hazards have been addressed
- Laser interlocks have been inspected by T. Decastro and measures are sufficient
- Any concerns can be forwarded to M. Garcia-Sciveres
- APPROVED by Safety Committee – OK to continue
SRC Update –
- New chairperson (Don Lucas)
- Issues regarding Mechanical Engineering Safety Committee – Forward all concerns to Division Safety Coordinator
- Spot Awards – Good way to recognize those who promote safe work practices
- Eight accidents in March, two in April – Significant increase
- New chair of Laser committee
- Ted Decastro observing practices of ALL laser operators
- Discussion on how to grade Divisions regarding EH&S
- Bicycle safety: Wear helmet at all times; register bike with LBNL
- Safety issues regarding outside workers (laser printer repair person, etc.)
- Are they trained?
- Do they need to contact Building Manager?

- Discussion of DOE reps at safety meetings
- DOE reps NEED to know what’s going on with division safety programs
- BSO reps will be around more often
- Feel free to contact B. Savnik with questions or comments
- Important to work along with these reps
- Safety is a VERY big concern with LBNL and Site Office
- Many reported accidents are preventable
- Important to asses work to be done: Do I have all the necessary equipment? Do I need additional help?
- Be willing to stop work if additional measures need to be taken to ensure safety
- Do not be afraid to report an accident
- Right away!
- The sooner, the better
