Safety Inspections
- Jim, Cathy, and Kathie to do housekeeping inspections; will also report any obvious ergo problems
- Rest of inspections will be done ALL Mondays in April
- Each person on committee will be assigned a time slot (10am-12pm)
- Inspection of shops (machine shops) to be done by Office of Assessments
Lab Safety Review Committee
· R. Madaras has completed his term and R. Kadel has started his term.
· Concerns with ergo issues. What is the fraction of people who have ergo injuries?
· Guests and chemicals: How do guests get chemicals? What happens to to these chemicals when the guests leave?
· Suggestion: Quarterly summary of accidents at LBNL. Have them posted in "Today @ LBNL".
MESH Review
- Management Environmental, Safety and Health
- Looks at how we communicate safety issues, training issues, hazards, etc.
- Integrated functional appraisal every 3 years
- IFA and MESH reviews are normally done together for Physics Division
- Physics delaying MESH Review
- Short discussion of MESH Review and its process
Student Safety (Big Issue)
- Agreement being worked on to designate lead person on each project, so everyone knows who the group leader is. Will this be one person or shared by more than one?
- Also working on documenting safety responsibilities for each person working on a project.
- Handout: Safety responsibilities and expectations for CSEE participants.
- Look over form and give suggestions for changes and adjustments. (Change "mentor" to "lead")
- These responsibilities apply to everyone! Guests, students, etc.
- Incorporate OJT into form.
- Use these forms as template for new agreement.
- K. Hardy to give presentation at next safety rep meeting.
