to discuss how we deal with projects that have more than one division
- Project
should be completed by May/June 2004
- Is
there a concern for students working there with no supervision?
- Is
student properly trained? Yes
- Have
group leaders arranged for oversight?
- Action Item: K. Hardy to see if there is a chain of
oversight when group leaders are not around
OSHA Inspection Results:
- Some electrical concerns (temporary wiring, etc)
- Ergonomics not included in inspections
- Safety shower issues (PH has no control over this)
- Try to maintain good housekeeping
- Final OSHA report still being completed
Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA):
- Be sure they are up to compliance
- Someone should check SAA daily
- Un-announced inspections will begin in April
- LBNL can be fined for these violations
- If you have an SAA, assign someone to monitor; know regulations, be trained
SRC Update:
· Annual report is available
· Physics will be reviewed every two years (MESH Review)
· Rich Kadel now on Laser Safety Committee
· Hazard communication is important
· Verify that individuals are trained
Microsystems Lab:
- New piece of equipment - 452XLE - Lam Research
- Plasma Etcher - Removes silicone dioxide from wafers
- Works by vacuum system
- Uses three carbon gases (Non-flammable, non-toxic)
- Carbon Monoxide NOT being used
- RF power - no external disconnection
- Handout - Description of equipment

is energized, but live circuits are covered/insulated
- Manufacturer
will do start-up inspection and operator training
- Concerns
about gas usage - usage is minimal; no new gases are created
