OSHA Inspection results
- Results go to DOE and Congress
- All inspectors had research lab experience (Brookhaven, etc.)
- Overall, very good results; some violations
- Some contractor violations were found - Open electrical trenches, etc.
- Temporary wiring is a big issue; High-power appliances (heaters, microwaves, coffee makers) plugged into power strips - violation
- Some blocked exits, and housekeeping issues
- Praise for not blocking electrical panels
- Biggest concern: Practices while working with chemicals - Use of splash guards, face shields, etc.
- Hose clamps for high pressure lines are not sufficient
- Some seismic issues were identified
Penalties for violations (Committee discussion)
- No specific penalties in writing
- Suggestions - Dock pay for one day; Put violation in P2R/personnel file
- Other suggestions
- 1st violation = verbal warning
- 2nd violation = written warning
- 3rd violation = personnel file/included in annual review
Ergo Issues
- Frank currently working on follow-up
- Make sure everyone has received materials that are needed
- Another ergo class will be held in March
Safety Training
- Students and guests are not attending mandatory meetings
- Lots of info not given out at new employee orientation
- People will not come to meetings if there are no consequences
- Suggestion
- Turn off computer account if anyone does not attend meetings/training
courses
