Validation of Desktop Telephone Calls Begins November 1

Based on Lab desktop telephone bills from August to October 2005, IT will begin requiring selected users to validate their outgoing calls starting November 1. Two percent of LBNL telephones will be randomly selected to validate an itemized phone bill, and indicate any non-business calling. Reimbursement for these calls will be required if it reaches a designated threshold. After November 1, desktop validation will be ongoing using the most recent quarterly phone bills.

Users of the cellular validation process will find the new desktop process familiar. Telephone records will be presented in a Web-based application which allows the user to designate non-business calls and creates a bill for any fees owed by the user.

As a reminder, Lab desktop telephones are for business use only. LBNL incurs costs on a per minute basis for every local and long distance call made. Policies regarding acceptable use of desktop telephones may be found in the RPM (9.02(A)(2)). Questions regarding this process may be directed to the Telephone Service Center.
