IT Updates: Appletalk/IPX Phase Out Last month IT announced it would end support for IPX, DECnet, and Appletalk, three old legacy network protocols still in use at Berkeley Lab. IT has begun to phase out the three protocols that will terminate completely on December 31, 2005. How will this affect you? AppleTalk traffic on the local subnet for file servers and printers will not be affected by this change. Your chooser will continue to show devices located in the same IP subnet as your Mac. AppleTalk zones will not appear in the Chooser. You will not be able to browse AppleTalk file sharing and printing services on remote subnets. Connecting to computers and printers on remote subnets will require TCP/IP. How do I get help? Read the Lab’s Appletalk resource website first.
