To provide better emergency responses, the Enhanced 9-1-1 (E911) service is being updated by ITSD's Networking and Telecommunications Department (NTD), along with the Lab’s Facilities and Environment, Health and Safety departments. The E911 system identifies the caller's telephone extension, name, building and room number, allowing emergency responders to pinpoint the employee’s exact location. When a call is placed to 7911 (from the main Lab site) or 9911 (from offsite facilities) from a Lab extension, the caller's E911 information will be automatically transmitted to the emergency service dispatcher.

But emergency services cannot find you unless they have updated information about where you are. All buildings and rooms must be validated in order to keep the database information about each caller current. At this time 36 buildings have been validated. A listing of verified buildings is available online.
