Cellular Number Portability and Usage Review

Cellular users are now able to change service providers without changing their cellular phone number. Here are some things that you need to know before deciding to make that change:

  • You will need to purchase new equipment.
  • Depending on your current cellular provider, you may need to carry your old cell phone and your new cell phone until the service has been switched. This could take up to two weeks.
  • Calling plans vary by service provider.
  • Depending on what provider you choose, monthly service costs could increase or decrease.

If you would like more information on moving to a new provider, please call Adams Lee @4966.

On-Line Cellular Usage Review for Nextel Users

In previous quarters, Nextel users were required to review hard copies of their cellular invoices and highlight personal calls. With the October ‘03 through December ‘03 review, due out this month, Nextel users will be able to validate their cellular usage on-line.

Reminder on personal use of Lab-issue cell phones

LBNL cell phones are issued for business use. Whenever possible Laboratory cell phones should not be used for personal calls. However, if personal phone calls other than those identified as allowable non-business calls result in charges to the Laboratory, it is the employee’s responsibility to review the cell phone invoices and identify those calls on a quarterly basis.

If an employee’s personal use is $5.00 or less in the quarter being reviewed, no reimbursement is necessary. If an employee’s personal use exceeds $5.00 in the quarter being reviewed, the employee is responsible for submitting his/her reimbursement to Telephone Services no later than 45 days after receipt of the cellular invoices for review.

Reimbursements checks are to be made payable to UC Regents.
