Network Infrastructure Upgrade Progressing
With the ever-increasing demand for additional bandwidth, the Laboratory is undergoing an in-building upgrade of all telephone and network wiring. This upgrade allows for future Laboratory network and telecommunications growth and the ability to keep pace with changing technology. The wiring upgrade includes changes to cable, voice and network receptacles (jacks), telephone equipment closets, frames, and cabling conduit. The Lab-wide wiring upgrade is scheduled to be completed in FY05. To date, completed buildings include 6, 46, 64, 69 and 90. Wiring upgrades to buildings 70, 70A, 71 and 77 are currently underway. The sequence in which buildings are to be upgraded is being driven by specific infrastructure needs. Visit Telephone Services' Web site for the project status map of completed and pending buildings.
