ISS Trains Staff and Customers in IT Project Management

More than 130 Lab staff members have completed the Project Management Overview and IT Application Specific Project Management training classes presented by the Information Systems and Services (ISS) Department in January and February.

The classes are part of an effort by ISS, in partnership with the Integrated Project Management Office, to provide customized project management training at LBNL.

The Project Management Overview is a one-day class which emphasizes the basic concepts of project management and introduces the Berkeley Lab project management strategy and enterprise computing project structure. The IT Application Specific class is a two-day class that is split into two topic areas: Systems Development Life Cycle (IT-centric) and Project Realities.

“The classes were so popular that demand for the next class in the series, In-Depth Project Management, has increased greatly,” said Linda Suarez of ISS. “Six two-day classes have already been scheduled for March and April.”

The In-Depth Workshop is a two-day class that will use small teams to address project deliverables: drafting, reviewing, revising and preparing for presentation. The instructor will guide the students through two projects during the course of the workshop.
