New 5.2 Version of Eudora Needs Settings Change to Be Compatible with IMAP Email

Qualcomm recently released an upgrade to its Eudora email application, but when a Lab employee upgraded from 5.1 to the new 5.2 version, he was no longer able to receive email from the Lab's IMAP server.

A computer support technician did a bit of investigative work and came up with the cause and a solution.

In all versions of Eudora from 4.x up, SSL is automatically set to "If available Starttls" when sending and receiving mail. However, for version 5.2 this setting does not allow the program to work with the Lab's IMAP email system. In the Tools, Options submenu, view both the Checking Mail and Sending Mail options and look for a "Secure sockets when sending" and "Secure Sockets when receiving" section. Setting the options for sending and receiving mail to "Never use SSL" and then shutting down and restarting Eudora resolves the problem.
