Update: Replacing Faulty Belts on Select HP Printers
An
item in the last Computing News about Hewlett-Packard providing free replacement
ITB belts for an ongoing problem with HP Color LJ 4500 and 4550 series printers
prompted a variety of inquiries.
The cause of the problem, which results in the printer turning out blank
pages, is a defective ITB belt. HP is providing free replacement belts,
regardless of whether the printer is still under warranty. According to
HP, the free replacement offer expires June 1, 2003.
While the replacement offer only covers the belt and not the labor to install
it, the replacement procedure is pretty easy and customers can usually do
it themselves. Employees who choose the do-it-yourself route can call HP
at 208-323-2551 for the replacement of an ITB belt.
