| Backups Update: Mac Users to Migrate to New Veritas Backup System |
| The
Computing Infrastructure Support (CIS) Department, which has deployed a
more flexible system for providing centralized backups of UNIX systems,
has completed testing the same system for backing up Macintosh computers.
As a result, CIS will be switching from the "homegrown" Macdumps
backup system to the new Veritas system. To introduce potential customers
to the service, CIS is offering a one-month free trial, which will demonstrate
both the features and the expected cost to the customer. Veritas allows
the backup group to customize services for each customer, and the cost is
based on the actual amount of data backed up.
To request a free month's trial, send an email to backupmaster@lbl.gov and include your contact name and phone number, the name of the system, current version of operating system and approximate size of the data to be backed up. CIS will also be testing Veritas as a backup for Windows systems over the next few months. For more information about Veritas, read previous articles from Computing News: |
