DOE Provides Financial Support for SANS Security Training

DOE has agreed to pay some of the costs for employees who participate in technical training provided by the SANS (System Administration, Networking, and Security) Institute. DOE's Cyber Security Training, Education, and Awareness Program has agreed to pay for both conference and online training; while participants are responsible for all travel expenses. Founded in 1989, the SANS Institute is a cooperative research and education organization through which more than 156,000 security professionals, auditors, system administrators and network administrators share the lessons they are learning and find solutions to the challenges they face.

The Lab's Computer Protection Program will once again coordinate this effort for LBNL. All requests to attend the training will be forwarded to the DOE Cyber Security Training Office. Once approval has been granted, the requester will receive an email directly from the Cyber Security Training Office. Do not register prior to receipt of this email. You will be provided a Purchase Order number and instructions on how to register for SANS training. Note: Online courses require a significant investment of time and effort and are only active for six months.

This training offer is available immediately on a first-come, first-served basis (since enrollment is limited). If you have previously registered and paid for a current or future SANS conference, you are not eligible for reimbursement of costs incurred prior to this notice. Current SANS conference and training opportunities can be found at http://www.sans.org.

To request SANS conference or online training, send email to cp-seminar@lbl.gov and eeschultz@lbl.gov.
