| Cost of On-Site Printer Repair Service to Drop Under New Contract |
|
Beginning Friday, March 1, the cost of on-site repairs of printers will
drop to $80 per hour. The new rate is the result of the Lab contracting
for the services of the UC Berkeley Workstation Hardware Support Group (WHSG).
The group includes certified HP printer technicians, stocks some commonly
used parts, and is willing to make on-site calls to the Lab (most of their
campus business comes to them).
"WHSG has completed a dozen printer repair jobs in the first couple of weeks and we are very impressed with the way they are supporting our customers," said Charlie Verboom, head of desktop support at the Lab. The change in printer support vendors was necessary after Microtech International (MTI) went out of business on January 16. The new contract is for six months, after which a new round of competitive bids will be sought. Special note: Although WHSG can do warranty work on Hewlett-Packard printers, the customer must provide proof of purchase and warranty coverage to avoid being charged for the repair. WHSG needs enough information to re-bill HP for the time charged. If you have a printer that you feel should be covered by a warranty from HP, please provide the technician with this information. From the Lab users' perspective, there will be a new technician or two,
Jack King and Larry Clark, but the process of getting service will remain
the same. Call the Help Desk at X4357 or create
a ticket via the Web to request help. |
