A Lab employee recently asked, "How can I forward numerous emails
(en masse) to an offsite email address? I don't want to have to forward
each one individually - it would take too long. Any ideas?"
Here's the solution, for users of the Lab's Netscape Communicator email
client, from the Computing Infrastructure Technologies Group. Note that
the procedure will forward the desired messages as a single message.
Using Netscape Communicator, do the following:
- Select the messages you want to forward (in Windows, use the Shift
key to select multiple "adjacent" messages, or Ctrl key to
select individual messages that are separated by ones you do not wish
to forward).
- Go to the "Message" menu, choose "Forward As"
and choose "Attachment."
- This will create a new message that contains the forwarded messages
as attachments. These messages are visible in the Attachment tab (the
one with the paperclip icon to the left of where you enter the recipient's
email address). Click on this tab to confirm that your messages are
in fact listed as attachments.
- Send a test message to yourself; you'll see that you receive a single
email that contains all of the forwarded messages. These should be readable
as body text, but you should see that they are in fact individual messages.
- Follow steps 1-3 and send the message (that now contains your forwarded
messages as attachments) to your intended recipient.
