| Advisory: IMAP Email Users' Mail Stores Are Being Moved as Part of Service Upgrade |
|
This article is for information only and no action is required. As part of the Computing Infrastructure Support (CIS) Department's effort to upgrade the central email servers, employees' centrally stored email is being moved to a new server. Employees should see no difference in their email and the change will have no effect on email addresses - about 100 accounts have been moved with no disruption in service. You will still connect to imap4.lbl.gov to read your mail. Additionally, you will still connect to smtp.lbl.gov (smtp2 if you are off site) to send mail. The behind-the-scenes mail migration will help the entire email system operate at peak efficiency and allow CIS to provide high quality of service. It takes about 15 minutes to move each user's mail, and CIS will send an email notice to each user as the move starts. During that time (usually at night), users may notice that their old messages disappear and then return about 15 minutes later. New mail will continue to be delivered during the move. CIS suggests that employees restart their browsers after the mail move is completed. Again, no other action or configuration changes are necessary.
