IT provides central inquiry, pricing, requisitioning and ordering for selected software titles for initial acquisition as well as maintenance. In some cases, IT encourages bulk buys so LBNL can negotiate discounts above and beyond what single unit purchase costs.

Future deployment for Windows computers will be automated to the extent possible, using tools associated with Active Directory. In addition, the eBuy initiative will change how the IT Division supports the acquisition and deployment of software.

Deployment depends on the specific software title. For example, if we order ChemDraw Pro, you will be sent a web link to download the software from the vendor's site. In other cases, we already have the master media and can provide a copy of the CDs immediately upon placing the order. For these situations, we also have the product keys that are necessary to active the software.
